What does the law require for a compliant installation?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p><strong>Installing a wallbox or charging station for electric cars<\/strong> means more than just mounting a device and connecting it to the grid. <strong>Every installation must comply with the requirements of CEI Standard 64-8<\/strong>, which is the <strong>official reference for the construction of electrical systems in a workmanlike<\/strong> manner, as established by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tussl.it\/glossario\/regola-dell-arte#:~:text=Legge%201%C2%BA%20marzo%201968%20n,a%20regola%20d&#039;arte%22.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Law 186\/68<\/a><\/strong> and by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bosettiegatti.eu\/info\/norme\/statali\/2008_0037.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DM 37\/08<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p>The reference section is <strong>IEC 64-8\/7 &#8211; Section 722<\/strong>, updated with <strong>Variant V4<\/strong>, which defines the requirements for circuits dedicated to powering electric vehicles.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Only by reflecting these regulations can <strong>safety, legal compliance and access to tax benefits<\/strong> be ensured.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"681\" src=\"https:\/\/silla.industries\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/normativa-cei-64-8-installazione-wallbox-1024x681.jpg\" alt=\"IEC 64-8 standard wallbox installation\" class=\"wp-image-22021\" srcset=\"https:\/\/silla.industries\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/normativa-cei-64-8-installazione-wallbox-1024x681.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/silla.industries\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/normativa-cei-64-8-installazione-wallbox-600x399.jpg 600w, https:\/\/silla.industries\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/normativa-cei-64-8-installazione-wallbox-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/silla.industries\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/normativa-cei-64-8-installazione-wallbox-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/silla.industries\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/normativa-cei-64-8-installazione-wallbox-360x239.jpg 360w, https:\/\/silla.industries\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/normativa-cei-64-8-installazione-wallbox-1200x798.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/silla.industries\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/normativa-cei-64-8-installazione-wallbox-1320x878.jpg 1320w, https:\/\/silla.industries\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/normativa-cei-64-8-installazione-wallbox.jpg 1400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Sizing and requirement of dedicated power line for each wallbox charging point<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>The standard requires that <strong>the line be sized according to<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>power rating of the wallbox<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Distance<\/strong> from the electrical panel;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mode of cable laying<\/strong> (exposed, recessed, underground).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Each charging point should have an <strong>exclusive power line<\/strong>, separate from other household circuits. The dedicated line reduces voltage drops and overheating risks, ensuring <strong>more stable and safer recharging<\/strong>, especially on high-power systems. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Mandatory protections for charging stations.  <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p><strong>Every charging facility must be protected against overloads, short circuits and current leakage<\/strong>. To do so, the standard requires: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Circuit breaker<\/strong>, for overcurrent protection;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Residual current circuit breaker<\/strong>, for protection against indirect contacts;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>detection of direct current (DC) leakage<\/strong>, either by differential <em>Type B<\/em>, or combination <em>Type A + RDC-DD<\/em> complying with <em>IEC 62955<\/em>. During installation, <strong>the earth resistance value must be<\/strong> <strong>verified and certified<\/strong>.<br\/>Inadequate grounding compromises the safety of the installation and may invalidate the <strong>Declaration of Conformity (Di.Co.)<\/strong> and insurance coverages. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Disconnection device  <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>To enable quick and safe intervention, and to avoid inadvertent power interruptions to the entire household system <strong>each wallbox supply line must be equipped with a disconnecting device.<\/strong> This device allows the circuit to be physically isolated in case of failure or maintenance. The location must be <strong>easily accessible and clearly identified<\/strong>, as required by <strong>IEC 64-8\/4, Article 473.2.2.1.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Declaration of Conformity (Di.Co.)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>Upon completion of the installation, the company or licensed technician must issue the <strong>Declaration of Conformity (Di.Co.)<\/strong>, a mandatory document under <strong>DM 37\/08<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Di.Co. certifies that the facility. <\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Has been carried out according to the rule of art;<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Meets the requirements of IEC 64-8 and IEC EN 61851-1<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Is eligible to claim<\/strong> <strong>bonuses and tax deductions<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><strong>A plant without Di.Co. is non-compliant and <\/strong>  Can be considered <strong>uninsurable<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is not up to standard according to IEC 64-8<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>Nonconformities are still widespread, especially in &#8220;do-it-yourself&#8221; installations or those performed without design verification. Among the most frequent cases are: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Wallboxes connected to existing non-dedicated outlets;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cables with insufficient cross-sectional area compared to the power;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Absent or inadequate protections (failure of DC detection);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grounding not verified or with non-standard values;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Absence of the <em>Declaration of Conformity<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to install a wallbox according to IEC 64-8<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p><strong>Section 722<\/strong> of the standard stipulates that <strong>charging of electric vehicles must take place on a dedicated and controlled circuit that complies<\/strong> <strong>with IEC EN 61851-1<\/strong>.
