Arera-GSE trial extended through 2025

Starting Feb. 15, application deadlines to the GSE reopen.

At the end of December 2023, Arera officially announced the extension of the ‘experimental initiative that increases the availability of about 6 kW power during night hours, Sundays and other holidays.

Also for 2025, this power increase does not require any formal request to one’s electricity supplier or additional costs. Undoubtedly, positive news for drivers of electric vehicles, especially considering that Arera estimates that owners of such vehicles could save between 60 and more than 200 euros per year by joining the initiative.

And the news doesn’t stop there: in fact, while current participants will be able to benefit from an additional two years of additional power, those who have not yet joined will have the opportunity to do so starting Feb. 15, thanks to the reopening of the terms for new customers to join.

What is the Arera-GSE trial and what does it involve?

Launched in December 2020 by Resolution 541, the initiative was created to take advantage of the potential offered by electronic meters installed at customers connected to low voltage by offering, for the same cost and only in cases where it can be demonstrated that they are used for the purpose of charging electric vehicles, a greater availability of withdrawable power. All at certain time slots and at no additional cost.

In fact, those who gained access to the trial, after applying, were (and still are) allowed to use up to 6kW of power to recharge their cars at night or on holidays.

Who is eligible for the GSE trial for 2025?

Just as in previous years, access to the trial is tied to meeting certain minimum requirements:

  • users who have an active electricity supply contract are eligible;
  • Domestic and non-domestic (other uses) customers are allowed;
  • The committed power shall be not less than 2 kW and not more than 4.5 kW
  • Low voltage (LV) connection, i.e., supply voltage not exceeding 1,000 V
  • charging devices capable of regulating charging service automatically or based on external controls are allowed.

How to apply to join the Arera trial, starting Feb. 15?

In order to submit an application from scratch, it is necessary for the requesting client (or his or her proxy), to submit the application electronically through the “Customer Area” of the GSE, which can also be accessed through SPID digital identity.

Once the application is submitted, following the procedure outlined on the website, it will be necessary to wait for the GSE to notify you of the outcome.

The latter is the crucial final step in declaring the application process complete.

Should those who have already been admitted to the Arera trial apply again?

No problem for those, however, who had previously joined.

As we can read, directly from the GSE website:

“It will not be necessary to carry out any operations by customers with the trial already active, with “approved” status.

These customers will simply continue to enjoy the benefits associated with the trial being extended.

Prism Solar in the Gse wallbox list

As we have seen from the list of minimum requirements, not all commercially available chargers are eligible to participate in the trial.

Prism Solar

Prism Solar was, in fact, among the first devices to be recognized by the GSE as eligible to take part in the trial, as well as included in theGDC (Dynamic Load Management)Trial Eligible Devices List.
